The year in pink ...

Stolen from </a>northern_star

Where did you begin 2008?
At a swanky dinner on the waterfront.

What was your status by Valentine's Day?
Married, just like it was on Jan. 1.

Did you have to go to the hospital?
Fortunately no.

Where did you go on vacation?
Las Vegas in January, Los Angeles in July, Las Vegas in November, and a few trips to Eastern Washington.

Did you know anybody who got married?
One of my best friends, and I had the honor of being a bridesmaid.

Did you know anybody who passed away?
My childhood cat. Sniff.

Where do you live now?
In the suburbs of Western Washington.

What was your best month?
September, aside from being sick on and off all month.

Who has been your best drinking buddy?
My spousal unit, in Vegas.

Made new friends?

Favorite night[s] out?
Ramen night in L.A., the Cougar basketball game in Seattle, Brooke's wedding.

Any regrets?
Of course.

What do you want to change in 2009?
My employment status.

Overall, how would you rate this year?
Decent. The good balances the bad.

Have any life changes in 2008?
Got pregnant ... and lost my job

Change your hairstyle?
Nah. I have been getting it cut like Teri's (circa end of L&C S4) since last year.

Get a new job?
Sigh. I wish.

How old did you turn this year?

Do you have a New Year's resolution?
Nope. I'm busy trying not to throw up on other people.

Did anything embarrassing?
Not that I can remember.

Get married or divorced?
I was already married, and am not planning to get divorced in the next six days.

Be honest--did you watch American Idol?
Nope -- I worked on the nights it aired.

Start a new hobby?
Yep, a couple.

Been snowboarding?
Ha. I don't have a death wish.

Are you happy to see 2008 go?
I am anxious and excited about what is to come in 2009.

Drank Starbucks in 2008?
Of course. I live in Seattle. I miss coffee.

Been naughty or nice?
Depends on who you ask. ;)
It's 4:16 a.m. Don't judge the insomniac. You know the drill -- take it if you want it. ;)

1. If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why? (Assume you also get baseline superhero enhancements like moderately increased strength, endurance and agility.) The ability to fly. I wouldn't have to let my hair air-dry in the car on the way to work if it only took me 30 seconds to get to Seattle. And I could go get real Thai food for dinner, and go see my friends whenever I wanted, and ooh, do a little nfic research on a deserted island in the middle of the Pacific ... (with my husband, people. Not Clark ... wait, what the hell, he doesn't read this -- I'll take either.)

2. Which, if any, 'existing' superhero(es) do you fancy, and why? Superman. Because he always makes deadline, and no one looks sexier in tights. And, depending on the day (and the story), he gets to go home with the best reporter in Metropolis -- or the prodigal son of Gotham.

3. Which, if any, 'existing' superhero(es) do you hate? Can I say Captain Planet? Is he even a superhero? I mean, I know he's a superdork, but ...

4. What would your superhero name be? UltraPinky, of course. Fighting for truth, justice, and good grammar.

5. Is there an 'existing' superhero with whom you identify/whom you would like to be? UltraWoman. Mad Dog Lane with superpowers? Unstoppable. (And not to mention her costume is pink. I'm all over that -- but not in the same way Clark was.)

Picking up the ol' pink pen ...

OK, no margarita. Something about company policy. Anyway, I stole this from the lovely LaraMoon.

- Choose a singer/band/group
- Answer using ONLY titles of songs by that singer/band/group
- Tag 7 more people.

She'll kill me, but I picked Celine Dion.

Tag yourself if you want ...

1. Are you male or female? Treat Her Like a Lady.
2. Describe yourself. A New Day Has Come.
3. What do people feel when they're around you? I'm Alive.
4. How would you describe your previous relationship? It's All Coming Back to Me Now.
5. Describe your current relationship. The Power of Love.
6. Where would you want to be now? I Remember L.A.
7. How do you feel about love? Love Doesn't Ask Why.
8. What's your life like? Taking Chances.
9. What would you ask for if you had only one wish? A Mother's Prayer.
10. Say something wise. That's the Way It Is.

What else is there to do at 3:30 a.m. ...

... but fill out a survey that I got from a friend via e-mail ... and watch "Melrose Place" on SoapNet? (Yes, I am pathetic.) I invite whomever is as bored as I am to do this fun little survey.

1. What time did you get up this morning?
10:30 a.m., but only because I had a doctor's appointment.

2. Diamonds or Pearls?
I like both, but when it comes to earrings, my favorites are my silver bead earrings from Tiffany.

3. What is the last film you saw at the theater? "Sex and the City," back in May. I skipped out on "The Dark Knight" to go shopping at The Grove, and I am sure Lara is utterly ashamed of me. I felt guilty ... until I got to Nordstrom.

4. What is your favorite TV show? "Lois and Clark" is my all-time favorite. "Desperate Housewives" is my favorite show currently on the air.

5. What do you usually have for breakfast? I don't really eat breakfast, but lately, I have been eating organic animal crackers and drinking iced chai tea in the car on the way to work.

6. What is your middle name? Anjali.

7. What kind of food do you dislike? Eggs, salmon, asparagus, any slimy seafood (clams, oysters, etc.).

8. What kind of car do you drive? 2006 Honda Accord.

9. Favorite sandwich? I'm not a huge sandwich person, but I love the grilled chicken breast with brie and creamy pesto on multigrain bread at Whole Foods. It's called The Alki.

10. What characteristic(s) do you despise? Backstabbers, slow drivers (especially vans going 50 in the fast lane), people who try to get ahead by making others look bad, poor hygiene, people who are cruel to the elderly, children or animals.

11. Favorite item of clothing? My Coach sunglasses. As for actual clothing, probably my magenta silk cardigan from Ann Taylor.

12. If you could go anywhere in the world on vacation, where would it be? Paris.

13. Where would you retire to? I'd still live in Washington, but I'd have a condo on Maui to escape to in the winter.

14. What was your most recent memorable birthday? Ask me at the end of today. ;-)

17. When is your birthday?

18. Morning person or night person? Considering it's 3:47 a.m. ...

20. Any new and exciting news you'd like to share? I got highlights -- and they were free!

21. What did you want to be when you were little? A soap-opera star, and then a journalist.

28. Do you wish on stars? Not really.

29. If you were a crayon, what color would you be? A cheerful shade of pink

30. How is the weather right now? I think it's kind of cool since it's the middle of the night.

31. Last person you spoke to on the phone? Chris, when I called to ask him to get sugar-free syrup at the store.

32. Favorite soft drink? Unsweetened iced tea.

33. Favorite restaurant? The Cheesecake Factory.

34. Hair color? Black with chestnut highlights.

35. What was your favorite toy as a child? My life-sized babydoll, Stacey.

36. Summer or Winter? Winter. I LOVE the Christmas season.

37. Chocolate or Vanilla? Vanilla.

38. Coffee or Tea? Coffee, but only in a skinny vanilla latte at Starbucks.

40. What is under your bed? Slippers and a flashlight.

41. What did you do last night? A true lady never tells. ;-) Oh yeah, and I wrote a little fic.

42. What are you afraid of? Birds, plane crashes, dying.

43. Salty or Sweet? Salty. I love chips entirely too much.

44.How many keys on your key ring? Five -- two to my house, two to my mom's, and my car key.

45.How many years (or months?) at your current job? Almost four and a half years.

46. Favorite day of the week? Monday. I'm off work.

49. Favorite hobby? Writing fic, shopping and travel.

50. Do you like finding out all this stuff about your friends? Yeah, it's fun, especially for my newer friends.

It occured to me ...

... that while I don't do memes on my blog, I can definitely do them over here! HA!

So here goes ... I got this from the lovely LaraMoon.

1. One movie that made you laugh: I ALWAYS laugh at "Miss Congeniality." It has some great dialogue, from "I'm gliding!" to "I'm in a dress, I have gel in my hair, I haven't slept all night, I'm starved AND I'm armed, don't mess with me!" to my favorite line of all, when the villain comments that Gracie has ruined the dream of thousands of little girls, she replies, "Their dream is to get blown up?"

2. One movie that made you cry: "The Rookie." When he gets called up to the major leagues and calls to tell his son, I always start crying.

3. One movie you loved when you were a child:
"Troop Beverly Hills." I seriously have seen it more than 50 times -- keep in mind that I saw it for the first time when I was eight. All I can say is, Beverly Hills, what a thrill. ;-)

4. One movie you’ve seen more than once: Ohhh too many to count. I own a lot of movies. I'll go with "The American President," which is my absolute favorite movie. It's such a beautiful love story, and the dialogue is brilliant.

5. One movie you loved, but were embarrassed to admit it: "Blue Crush." It's such a teeny-ish surfing movie, but every time I see the ocean pounding against the beach in Hawaii, I swoon.

6. One movie you didn't like:
Most movies my husband likes. No, really. But I'll pick a specific one here: "Falling Down," with Michael Douglas. Just because you've had a crappy day doesn't mean you leave your car on the freeway and go on a killing spree.

7. One movie that scared you: "Don't Say A Word." Brittany Murphy's singsong, "I'll never tell ..." creeps me out every time. I also was totally creeped out by "American Psycho."

8. One movie that bored you: "The Insider." To this day, I can't remember what it's about. Something to do with the tobacco industry ... I should probably ask Chris, because big surprise, it's a movie he likes.

9. One movie that made you happy:
"The Devil Wears Prada." I was thrilled that the movie lived up to the book, which is one of my favorites. I loved the music and I REALLY loved the fashion.

10. One movie that made you miserable: "Juno." It was hilarious, but the plotline just reminded me of my fertility problems.

11. One movie you weren’t brave enough to see: "The Nanny Diaries." I LOVE, love, love the book. I can't count how many times I've read it, and I heard the movie totally destroyed the integrity of the plot. So while I am slightly curious, I don't want to see it and have it taint my impression of the book. (Oh yeah, and I hate Scarlett Johanssen.)

12. One movie character you’ve fallen in love with: Cher Horowitz in "Clueless." While Lois has been my hero on and off since I was 12, I also went through a phase where I wanted to be Cher. I even spoke like her my freshman year of high school, uttering such pithy phrases as "Whatever," (complete with hand gestures) and "I'm audi," and, of course, "hauling ass" to the Gap.

13. The last movie you saw: "Sex and the City." I LOVED it. I was just checking Amazon to see when it comes out on DVD (Sept. 26) so I can rewatch and analyze every last Manolo.

14. The next movie you hope to see: I never have time to go to the movies, so this one will be a broad goal. The "Shopaholic" series I love is being turned into a movie, and I think it's coming out around Valentine's Day. ;-)

This is me, being a big pink sucker ...

.... and I blame Lara and Jessi.* No doubt about it.

I didn't want a Live Journal. I have a bad history with it -- not my own, but this jerk from college who used his as a means of talking crap about me. (He clearly didn't count on my investigative skills because it took me all of two seconds to find it.) This is the same assclown who beat me for editor of our college paper junior year (yes, gasp, it's true: once upon a time, there was a newsroom that Mad Dog Pinky didn't rule), and then, when it became evident that my general fabulousness was jeopardizing his chances at a second term, he tried to fire me. I'd say I got the last laugh, though, given where I work -- and where he works (i.e. not a newspaper, because his reputation made him unhirable).

Besides, that was then, and this is now.

And in the period between then and now, I made these awesome friends who happen to love a certain man of steel and mad dog journalist as much as I do, and they all have LJs. So, of course, I wanted to be able to leave them love and support (and snark), much as they do for me. So, lo and behold, against my free pink will, here I am.

My actual blog continues to be at blogspot.com (and no, you all are not going to seduce me into move it over here, so don't even try), and if you want to be added as a reader and are not on my friends list, let me know. That is, unless you're my stalker, and in that case, not so much, and also, please take a long walk off a short pier. Thanks.

* Technically, I can't be mad at the Bat and the Igloo, anyway. Lara is the best beta I know, and Jessi always has ice, and she made me this awesome pink avatar.
